Practicing random acts of kindness is a fun, easy way to brighten someone's day, whether you surprise a stranger or a loved one with a special act from the heart. 2 Corinthians 6:8 reminds us that God loves a cheerful giver, stating "Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion."
With so many opportunities to bless others with kind acts, you may want some help narrowing down your options. We've compiled a list of easy random acts of kindness you can do for others.
Do you have a neighbor who often asks for your prized peanut butter cookie recipe or praises your banana pudding? Surprise them with a fresh batch of their favorite treat along with a short note wishing them a blessed day or complimenting one of their best qualities.
Help someone special enhance their apartment with a potted plant or vibrant flower. If your friend enjoys gardening, buy seedlings, herbs or flowers they can replant in the yard.
Customize your care package to meet the needs of your friend or neighbor. This may mean including cough drops and tissues for a sick friend or filling a package with books and magazines for a friend who hasn't made it to town lately.
If you notice someone who often sits on the outskirts of classes or worship time, invite them to sit beside you. You may just make a wonderful new friend during the process.
Write a letter showing your appreciation for a staff member, and deliver a copy to them as well as one to their supervisor. You can also include baked goods, candy or a plant with your written note of gratitude.
Try some — or all — of the kind acts above anytime you feel called to bless another, whether it's a fellow resident or someone you meet while exploring the area with a friend. As Hebrews 13:2 explains, we must always show hospitality toward strangers, for some of us have unknowingly entertained angels. When we spread kindness, we warm the hearts of others — and our own.
