Home is where the heart is, yet as so many of us who love a good meal know, the quickest way to the heart can be through the stomach—or taste buds. Our culinary services team is dedicated to nourishing our residents, body and soul, with tasty, heart-healthy meals.
To celebrate, we’re hosting a special “Caring is a Work of Heart” culinary event, and invite you to join us for a delicious meal and to learn about the benefits our residents receive from our nutritional strategy. Mark your calendars for Sunday, February 5th, from 10:00am - 11:30am when Chef Alex Veliz offers you the chance to experience the great flavor and warm feeling of a delicious meal with our culinary team.
If you’ve tried Chef Alex Veliz’s famous buttermilk fried chicken or four-meat, two-cheese lasagna, you might be surprised to hear he has a penchant for heart-healthy cooking.
Alex joined the Autumn View Gardens team nearly eight years ago, and in 2014 received the VOYCE Caregiver Excellence Award for his dedication to an excellent dining experience and care for residents.
“I lost my grandparents early in life,” he says. “But now I’m blessed with 80 elders every day, all of whom I truly admire for their experience and wisdom. Meals create a place to share their stories.”
Alex sees his role as servant and advocate. He gets to take different residents’ favorites, ideas, regional and religious food preferences and create a dining experience that meets and exceeds their expectations. He loves to switch up the dining experience by throwing outdoor barbecues and other fun events.
When you visit, don’t forget to ask about his heart-healthy “fit-atta” recipe, or for a taste of his fall-off-the-bone BBQ pork steaks or handmade cranberry apple or strawberry rhubarb pies.
