Choosing to retire to an assisted living community can often be a solid financial decision for seniors. While you do pay to live in a community such as Autumn View Gardens, the price of residence comes with a wide range of benefits, including a safe and secure place to live, meals, housekeeping and a schedule full of activities. Our assisted living community also offers a number of benefits related to health and wellness, including care plans, 24-hour trained team members, medication management, health assessments and onsite rehabilitation, podiatry and pharmacy services.
Many seniors choose senior living communities because they create some stability when it comes to both finances and health. But no matter where you live, you may find yourself dealing with unexpected health care expenses during retirement. According to USA Today, four expenses that people may not plan enough for can include:
Dental care
Vision care
Hearing services
Long-term care
By choosing Autumn View Gardens, seniors have already taken a step in the right direction for planning for long-term care. Our teams offer a wide range of assistance options to help you live your best, most vibrant life while you're a resident at Autumn View Gardens.
But when it comes to planning for some of these other unexpected expenses, it often comes down to understanding your health care coverage. Here are some facts to consider as you choose your health insurance plans or consider how best to set your savings aside to cover potential costs in the future.
Standard Medicare plans don't tend to cover hearing aids, but some Medicare Advantage HMO plans do.
Medicare Advantage plans may also cover routine vision care while standard Medicare plans do not. Standard Medicare plans do cover treatment for eye diseases and other diagnosed issues, but you may be out the cost of vision exams and glasses.
You do have to pay more for Advantage plans in the form of extra premiums. However, if you are fairly certain you'll incur hearing or vision expenses, you might save money by doing so.
Seniors can also take advantage of discount programs and service providers, such as by ordering glasses through programs such as Zenni Optical.
Standard Medicare plans also don't cover dental care of any kind, including dentures or bridges. Some Advantage plans do offer dental coverage, and seniors may also be able to enroll in coverage with dental discount or insurance plans. When considering these plans, make sure you understand how much maximum the plan will pay each year for dental work to ensure that you're getting a good value for any premiums you pay.
